Top 10 dangerous dog breeds

Check out this list. I cannot believe it when Chow Chow is actually one of them.

In loving memory of my fishy

I was kinda surprised when i woke up on saturday morning to find one of my fishes dead, motioneless on the bottom of the tank. Its tail and fins were gone, presumably nibbled by the others. Its eyes are gone too, something i suspect is fishes’ favourite part of the body.

Its death have me decide that i should change the water for the tank. The water looked too yellowish and i wonder if the fishes are having it hard. I scooped out nearly 3/4 of the tank, top up with fresh tap water plus a teaspoon of sea salt like usual. After the change, the tank looks much cleaner and the fishes seem livelier.

2 hours later, 2 of the fishes are deeeeeaaaad.

I was really at a loss, the remaining two red eyed tetras are actually fading in and out, ready to go over the other side any moment. The three danios are slightly better although they look bloated compared to this morning. The sucker fish looked the same, since it always motioneless at the bottom anyway.

I decide i had to do something fast. Only 2 options came to my mind. One, either change the water again or Two, release them into some lake nearby.

I didn’t have time to really sit down and think. I took them out of the tank. It was not tat simple a task, even though they feel sluggish, they still can escape my small net with ease. Once i had all of them in a small pail, i went to bathe.

Because i had decided to release them, like the two catfish before.

I drove out to the nearby lake. It had just rained so there wasn’t many people there, only the occasional ones trying to catch some small yabbies among the rocks. I let them go under a small bridge.

At that moment, i have no idea if i am doing the right thing. Am i killing them by releasing them? Have i just behave irresponsibly as a pet owner?

I stood around to observe them. I could tell that the danios are pretty at home, ever so lively among the rocks. The sucker fish just laid there so i had no idea if it’s still alive. What hurts me alot was when i see the tetras slowly sinking to the bottom, not even struggling. I didn’t know if they were still suffering from my water change that morning or the lake. They just sank until out of my view.

My steps to the carpark were heavy. I didn’t know what will be the best for them. I didn’t intend to keep fishes in the first place, mini lobsters or yabbies were my interest then. But as the lobsters died one after another, all i had remained were these fishes. And now, they all left me in a manner that i wouldn’t have expected.

I went back home. I looked at the now quiet and empty tank, sadly thought how fast things change, how different things were the night before when i fed them.

My poor fishes. Forgive me for being a poor owner.

The end of my last lobster

Just minutes ago, i woke up from my nap and was all awake when i saw my last lobster lying on its back at the bottom of the tank, motionless.

Its dead.

The two fish are still ok. But what could have happen?

Well, this afternoon, before i change water, the lobster was still its usual self. I replaced around 1/3 of the water with fresh tap water. Before i poured in the last pail, i put in the normal amount of sea salt to dissolve first.

I cannot understand what could have happen. If something is wrong with the water, the lobster should be the last to get affected since it can climb onto the ornaments inside the tank to “escape". The fish should be the first to go.

I took it out, put it inside a plastic bag and throw it into the chute. I am sad, yes, its the last of my 3 lobsters and the biggest. Yet i am not that very sad, removing and throwing away the dead lobster as if it was routine job.

It had been quite an experience to keep lobsters crayfish as pets. You can literally see their growth when they moult. You can understand their character from the way they fight with each other. Something you may not see if you keep dogs or cats.

Yet as time goes by, the novelty of keeping lobster as pets slowly wore on. I still like the three lobsters that i keep, cannot say the same for others.

I hoped i had gave them a good life while in my care.

Back from the brink of death?

As you may have known, my pet lobster is dying, or so i tot.

My mum called me yesterday morning, while i was at work, to tell me that one of the two red tetras i have is gone, or to be more exact, only the head is left. I was like “WTF?!" Only two days before and i suspected my lobster to be dying, now it still have the energy and zest to attack and eat up the fish?

Went home immediately after work, went to my fish tank straight after i threw down my bag. There i see the lobster and suddenly everything became clear to me. Its carrying eggs underneath its tail, and the eggs are obviously not fertilised. That all explains why the odd behaviour couple of days ago.

And there was nothing left of the poor fish. Nothing at all.

Sick pet

My brother first saw it when he came back for dinner on monday. My pet was “dead".

Not actually, but almost. It was lying on its back, a rare sight for any lobster even for a dead one. A dead lobster will jus lie on its side and sway with the water, they dun turn upside down.

I decide to stay up that nite to observe my pet. First of all, its tail is now all curled up and this is usually the first sign that things are not right. Then its not eating at all, not even picking up the pellets i threw in.

So i took the camera and wait. These are what i captured.

My first thought was to try to find out what can be the possible causes. I jus changed the tank water on sunday afternoon, added the marine salt in but it wasn’t the first time i did that. I decide to take the safe approach and change one pail of water.

After 2 days (today), its looking slightly better but the tail is still curled up. It didn’t even raise its claws when the fish swam right in front of it.

Better start preparing my steamboat soon. Hahaha…

My pet crayfish

Woke up this morning to find one of my fish in the mouth of the crayfish.

I keep pets. One crayfish (or lobster as some prefer to call it) and 4 little fishes. It used to be 3 crayfishes and no fish. But as 2 of them died (one due to sexual stress and another due to rivalry), i tot i will buy some fish to keep this last one some company.
But now i am left with one female “Empress Dowager" and 3 little enunchs.
Was still thinking of buying a pair of catfish later but now i am having second thoughts…

For the little-informed, crayfish are not lobsters. To put it simply, lobsters are saltwater while crayfish are freshwater. Both can be eaten but crayfish are generally not treated as food locally. To know more, pls see here.
Anyway, here is a brief recount of wat happen to the Emperor and concubine.

The concubine died first. It was the smaller of the 3 initially. Always in a disadvantageous position due to its size (smaller than the other female) and smaller pincers (male have larger ones), it tend to hide and dun really get enuff to eat. Once after moulting, it lost in a fight and the other female got one pincer as dinner. It never really recover from the fight and died soon after tat.
The emperor was luckier though (but not much). With two females around, it never lack sexual company. But i guess it knew the dowager was in a better position to bear offsprings, so the concubine never really get her share of bedtime action.
But the dowager was demanding. So much so tat the emperor secretly plotted an escape from the palace one night and found its way to my parents’ room toilet. There, my sister discovered the morning after, drying and dying. Even when we returned it to the palace, it died on the second night. Now the palace is all the dowager’s.
