Happy? Nah…

Today, both my bosses together gave me  a 15 minute talk, told me what they expect of me for the future now that I am going to be promoted tomorrow. If they were wondering why i had an expressionless face throughout the talk (they did), it was because i didn’t think i was glad or relieved i am to be promoted. I probably have much more emotion washing my car, which i did last weekend.

Why wasn’t i happy? Should i be? Promotion is something to be happy and celebrated, but when I have no faith in the rewarding system in my workplace, no expectations of the way people are managed, I lose sight of the way to go. I go to work and knock off everyday like a zombie, I do what is required but rarely, if ever, motivated to do something extra or special in my work. My fellow colleagues did their part, loyally at times. Yet their departure were always ugly and never failed to encourage me to leave this place sooner.

Should i be happy?

Long lost feeling

I have not been myself lately. I have been watching the korean drama “各人取向" for the past few days, completely hooked. I have never watched korean drama serial, haven’t had the interest and stamina to finish watching any serial shows for a very very long time. And i find myself rooting for the on-screen couple to be re-united every time after they had a fight, or smiling sheepishly when they eventually do. I find all these, so, gay unmanly.

I guess its probably the innocence of the heroine, the way she feels towards her loved one that attracts me to the show. And in the society now, its probably impossible to find anyone like tat.

Oh really?

One fine morning, the news of a worried gahmen hit the headlines. Concerned of the temptations of the free shuttle bus on heartlanders, nevermind already the presence of the two casinos and the upcoming direct train services, the free buses were promptly removed two days later.

Hasty? Well, the decision was made by the IRs, though the influence from the gahmen cannot be overstated. Was anyone interested in the percentage of the people who took the bus actually went to the casinos? Will someone who is willing to pay $100 per entry, or $2000 per year, scrimp on transport that he or she has to rely on the free shuttle? Or has someone felt that the free shuttle services has posed a serious alternative to some mainstream transport and thus worried about the potential loss of profits?

From this simple issue over the past few days, its not really hard to see what moves the gahmen in its actions.

The actions of our dear gahmen can really irks the local people sometimes. I for one, can barely believe that our ministers who are paid millions, really act for the good of the people he or she was elected to take care of. No doubt our pool of talented people is small, but do we need a minister who acted purely with the aim of getting the votes in the upcoming election? Is that all he is ever concerned of? How many of them are willing to get out of their ivory towers to know their people, go through what their people are complaining of, and bring up some bread and butter issues in parliament?

I must vote “wisely" in the upcoming election.
